Link Trading - An Internet Marketing Strategy

Are You Properly Trading Links?

To exchange links there are four "YOU MUSTS" that you must follow:

1. You must give your URL;
2. You must give the person you are exchanging links with a TITLE (preferrably keywords describing your blog) expecting that these are the words they will use as the title of the link;
3. You must give them a brief DESCRIPTION of your site - What is your blog about? (again using your main keywords); and finally
4. In return, you should expect the same three pieces of information from the other person.

Why does it have to be so complicated? Why can't you just say, "Hey, let's do a link exchange. I will put a link to your page on my site and you do the same for me?" Well, there are distinct reasons for this.

Now you may decide after reading this article that you're going to continue exchanging links the way you've been doing it. That is absolutely fine too. The idea here is to determine the level of importance you place on making money blogging. I myself have yet to apply what you are going to learn today to this blog (I call this my "test" blog), but will be doing so in the future. If you are trying to promote your blog by link exchanges, an excellent internet marketing tool, then look below.

Gail Hornback, owner of WebWorksAtHome.com, wrote an excellent article on the proper use of link trading as an internet marketing tool for your site. Among other thoughts she has about trading links she writes the following list of what-to-dos (If you see black font/parenthesis, this is information I have added):

If you are serious about promoting your site by trading links with other sites, then take the time to do it right.

1. Find sites that complement your site, and that you would feel confident in recommending to others. (Quite frankly, if a site doesn't meet the criteria that I want my visitors to look at, it won't stand a snowball's chance in the hot place of getting on my site! )

2. Contact the webmaster with a personal email, telling them about your site, and asking if they would be interested in trading links.

(In the case of a blog where you may not know the email adress of the owner, you might just leave a nice comment and request to exchange links.)

3. Ask them to write their own description of their site, as they would like it explained to your visitors.

4. Set up a page on your site for these links, and call it something BESIDES "link trades." Call it "Recommended sites", or anything creative that will tell your visitors that it is worth looking through. Because it IS worth looking through. You have chosen these sites specifically for a trade with your site! You are recommending them to your visitors!!!

(For Blogger blogs that don't have a categories section, you may just wish to put your links and a very short description of each in your sidebar or better yet, you can set up one blog entry just for link exchanges and put the permalink to that entry in your sidebar. Whenever you want to add a link, you can just access the post and update it.)

5. List each site name and their short description. ( Yup, you'll have to do this yourself, by hand, individually, one at a time!)

6. Strive to trade YOUR link exclusively with sites that use these same guidelines.

Your goal in every aspect of your e-business and website should be to give VALUE to your visitors. REAL VALUE! This method of trading links creates a much greater value for your visitors, not to mention the increased value of the link you have traded on the other end.

It always comes down to the same basic idea. The best results rarely come from the easiest method. Building a successful e-business will take work, which takes time. Looking for an automated business? Time to get over it. And get on with reality!

If you have looked around this blog, you may have noticed that I have not properly "described" my links, nor have I asked for those I've exchanged links with to give me a description of their blogs. However, I do find this to be an awesome internet marketing strategy and will be implementing Gail Hornback's suggestions in the near future.

As a newbie to internet marketing, I had no idea descriptions were that important, but isn't it true that it adds weight to the links? Imagine if others linking to you had just the right description under your link to draw others to click into your blog. Wouldn't that create more valuable traffic to your site. Those clicking on your links would really want to see more about what your blog is all about.

What about you? What if you had an entire blog about gift baskets and you came across a company like GourmetGiftBaskets.com. This would be an excellent company to exchange links with. You know that their site complements yours, so it's a perfect fit.

If you feel intimidated about asking a company like this for a link exchange, but you still want to put their link on your page, you can easily look in their latest web release for a description of their site. There they say that their company offers the finest gift baskets appropriate for any day and any occasion. They also say that you can trust their company to delight the recipients of their gift baskets, because they are sending the best there is.

With all of that information, what description would you write? Under their link, I would write - "The finest gourmet food gift baskets for a variety of occasions."

I would love to hear from you, so please leave a comment! :-)

Make Money Online Writing Blog Articles!

Associated Content - More Easy Internet Money!

Associated Content is a great company to become familiar with and participate in if you are looking to make money online. While focussing on writing articles for your blog, you can also think about getting paid for those articles.

Writing articles is another internet marketing strategy you can use for your blog to obtain valuable web site traffic. How, by getting your articles published. Did you ever think you'd be a published writer? Well now it's easier than ever to become one online.

Associated Content accepts exclusive and non-exclusive articles. What does that mean? Here are some guidelines on their site about this:
Exclusive: You guarantee that the submission has not been previously published (either online or in print) and will not be published elsewhere in the future. You assign copyright ownership to Associated Content (AC).
Non-Exclusive: You guarantee that you own the copyrights to your submission and grant AC license to publish your content. Previously published content may be submitted under the non-exclusive category.
Monetary consideration: Content submitted for exclusive rights will be offered the highest bid amounts. Must be at least 18 years old and a U.S. Citizen.
No Payment: You grant permission to AC to publish your content and agree to waive payment. The information above is included in the Contractor Agreement.
After reading all of that, recognize that you can write about any topic you are knowledgeable in!

Most or actually all of my submissions to Associated Content to date have been "non-exclusive" since I have also published those articles in other places, like my blog, even though as it says above, you can get more money if Associated Content has "exclusive" rights to your articles.

So what do you write about? What are your blog entries about? Are they ready for submission to this site? You could write about something as crazy as toilet paper holders or even the scientific properties of beach sand. Why don't you try making money online with Associated Content?

Here are the Content Submission Guidelines again directly from their site:

Content Qualifications

1. All content must incorporate correct English grammar, capitalization, sentence structure, spelling and punctuation. Poorly written submissions will be automatically rejected.

2. Content must be free of excessive self-promotion, and cannot contain a press release or other advertisement. Promotional links may be placed with the Resources field only.

3. Content must not be defamatory in nature or contain pornography or excessive profanity.

4. Content must be insightful and informative. Submissions which are vague or incomplete will automatically be rejected.

5. Attached image files must comply with copyright ownership per our independent contractor's agreement. Caption and credit information for public domain images must be in accordance with stated public republishing policies.

6. Image submissions need to be in .jpg or .gif format and must not exceed 1 MB in size or be more than 1000 pixels wide.

7. Audio submissions must be in mp3, wav, wma, rm, or aiff formats.

8. Video submissions must be in aac, aif, asf, avi, dv, mov, mpeg or wmv formats.

Formatting Content

1. Text-based content must be submitted in text format. We do not support internal links or any other formatting. Submissions with extraneous tags will automatically be rejected.

2. We do not allow deep linking to offsite content. All external links must identify the sites proper name and be directed to their main index or splash page. If you want to refer to an online article, list the article title and the host website name and URL. Check all external links in your submission. Broken or incorrect links may cause your submission to be rejected.

3. Bylines must be removed from submissions. Content will be credited and linked to the Content Producer's profile page below the title of every published submission.

Submission Requirements:

The following fields apply to all text-based submissions:

1. Headline - A descriptive and precise title. Place the most important words and at the beginning of your headline. For example, Summit County, Colorado Wedding Locations and Advice is a great headline. For our purposes The Best Day of My Life is a poor headline because it doesn't describe the content in searchable terms.

Search engines will discover your content via this headline as well as through the frequency of key words or key phrases within the body of your submission. While you need a specific, descriptive headline - and we value this when making offers - the words you select for this headline must also appear within the text. If you're writing about Summit County, Colorado Wedding Locations and do not mention "Summit County" or "wedding" in your article, then your content will not be discovered easily by search engines - and we will value it less.

2. Sub Headline (Optional) - An expanded description of the headline or a creative, catchy title. Examples: Ski Areas and Other Special Ceremony and Reception Sites or Exchanging Vows at High Altitude.

3. Abstract - A short 2-3 sentence description of your content that highlights the major points/issues of your submission. The abstract field is limited to 250 characters. For example: Summit County's sunny, snow-packed winters and wildflower-packed summers make it a top wedding destination. Ten well known - and lesser known - wedding locations are suggested for couples planning either 300+ guest events or intimate receptions.

6. "Did You Know?" Statement - An interesting or fun fact or concept that will engage the user with your submission. For example: "Many Colorado couples choose to exchange vows on skis and have receptions at ski area lodges".

7. Three Takeaways (Optional) - Key information or discussion points to focus the user.

8. Resources for Additional Information (Optional) - Suggestions for users who want to learn more about your topic. Resources can be online, print or other media.

Image,Video and Audio requirements:

Our system supports .jpg and .gif files under 1MB in size or no larger than 1000 pixels wide. All image submissions must be accompanied by the following information:
1. Caption (image files only)
2. Credit (image files only - optional)
3. Copyright owner
4. Keywords - words or phrases that an online user would enter to discover your image.

More Search Engine Optimization Information!

Can these strategies be the answer to making money on the internet?

If you have been following this blog, you know how much I have stressed that if you want your web site/blog to be seen, you should try to learn something about search engine optimization (SEO) and then implement what you learn. Well, after attending last weekend's internet marketing workshop, hosted by Stores Online, I am absolutely certain that focussing on this is the right thing to do. Here are just a few of the techniques that I learned:

1. Dedicate a separate site for each subject you wish to discuss. Now with blogging, this may not be what you had in mind, but if you are trying to make money blogging, this is something you should think about.

In fact, in that Blogging to the Bank e-book I bought a while back, it actually showed an example of this. The focus of the blogs that Rob, the author, set up was "tropical fish." Well, he didn't just write about tropical fish, but other types of fish too and he set up a separate blog for each kind of fish.

This is ideal for drawing search engines to your blogs in that this way they are not confused about what topic you really are discussing. When they are not confused, they index you properly and rank you higher on your topic's totum poll simply because you are being specific.

95% of website owners and bloggers don't know this or understand it, so consider yourself one of the few. ;-)

Also, it is generally understood that your title should be 6 to 12 words in length. Remember to use your keywords! If your blog is about tropical fish, then those are two of the main "keywords" you should have in your title or maybe even the only two words.

The description underneath your title should be 25 words or less. You can break it up into two sentences, but make sure your prime keywords are in the first sentence and then the second set of keywords could be in the second sentence. For example, again using the example of "tropical fish," your first sentence would use the words tropical fish together and then in your second sentence maybe you would just use the word fish (a broader word for your subject matter).

Finally, make sure the URL you establish for your blog site has your keywords in it. Again, if you are writing a blog all about tropical fish, then try to get a url with those words in it (i.e. http://tropicalfish.blogspot.com or if that name is already taken, you can always put a dash between the words (i.e. tropical-fish) and see if that works.

Again, these techniques will help search engines find you more quickly and index you properly and more efectively. Here is an exercise you can try. Let's say the topic of your blog will be about Fly Fishing. What would you do?

All that I have written, I have written before, but after attending that workshop, I truly understood it and felt compelled to share it with you again. These are not the only SEO techniques out there, but these SEO techniques are surely at the top of the list.

I will leave you with a quote from Alan Greenspan:

"I guess I should warn you, if I turn out to be particularly clear, you've probably misunderstood what I've said." ;-)

Happy Blogging!

Internet Marketing Workshop

Workshop on Internet Marketing Techniques and Strategies.

If you have never attended an internet marketing workshop, let me tell you it is so much better than reading books. Believe me!

Last weekend, I attended a full-day Internet Marketing workshop. By the end of the day, I felt like I had learned so much that my head would surely explode. I wish all of you could have been there.

I will attempt to summarize a few of the items that I learned about and hopefully in the next few days or weeks, get into each topic in detail.

First, I was very impressed with the SEO (search engine optimization) strategies that were discussed. You cannot market your products and services effectively online without knowing about SEO. Even if you have a wonderful "niche" market, it is still imperative that you learn at least something about SEO and implement what you learn into your internet marketing strategies.

Secondly, I learned a term that I had not heard before in relation to internet marketing. Have you heard about drop shipping? What a novel idea that was for me, even though it has been around for a long time. I have to tell you that if you are serious about internet marketing and want to have your own successful online business, this is a topic you want to research.

Thirdly, I learned about overture.com. I had no idea that overture.com is the .com behind the scenes, more to the point, that it is the largest search engine "pay-per-click" behind the scenes. It is so large, in fact, that Yahoo decided it no longer wanted to compete with it and bought it out.

Fourthly, and related to the Overture.com knowledge I gained, I learned a strategy for getting top ranking (1st, 2nd or 3rd) in search engines as popular as Google, Yahoo, Alatavista and more...all of them you could say. Before I introduce that to you I am going to try it out myself, because it just seems to good to be true, and so simplistic!

Now that I think about it, there were so many internet marketing techniques that I learned, affiliate marketing included, that my post would soon bore you. I'm sure you really don't want to know the topics of what I learned, but the details, right. Well, stay tuned for more on Internet Marketing in the next days and weeks.

Technorati Tags Made Easy!

Do you find tagging your blog a PAIN?

I use Technorati and Zoom Clouds to tag my blogs, but although I heard it was a very good thing to do in order to generate website traffic, I have caught myself thinking, "What a nuissance!" Several times I was almost tempted to forget about tagging my blog, until........

My friend, Michele, has this great blog site that she just created called Cool Blog Tools and one of the tools she featured recently was Technorati Tags. She described Technorati like this:
Technorati is a blog directory that allows you to tag your posts so that other searching for your keywords find you. You can also find out what blogs are linking to you, keep a favorites list and more. An essential tool for any blogger.
I would just like to add that I have an additional tool which I use to generate these Technorati Tags almost instantly, and it has made my life so much easier when it comes to creating them. The link for this tool is: Technorati Online Tag-o-Matic. This is an awesome tool and one I use everyday!

There are simple directions on the site that you can follow, but I'll quote them here:
To use this, click on the "Create tag text" link," input the tags you want, hit okay, copy the created text and paste it into your blog editor. Be sure to dismiss the dialog box after you're done. Javascript must be enabled on your browser for this to work.
It's so simplistic that it is almost unbelievable, until you try it. Creating Technorati Tags is no longer a nightmare for me. I hope you enjoy this tool too!

Updated to add: Well what do you know! Michele has this tool listed too. LOL!

Updated again to add: By the way, if you are wondering how to find out what blogs are linking to you, I just asked the Cool Blog Tools guru, Michele, and here's what she said:
If you log onto Technorati you can then click "account" at the top. Under each of your blogs it will tell you how many links from how many sites (that is a clickable link)... click that link and you'll see who your linkers are.
I haven't tried this yet, but when I do I will update again.

I'd love to hear from you. Comment Below or Email Me Using the Sidebar Link. Thank You. :-)

Making Money Blogging - Don't Run Your Readers Away!

Linking Your Readers To Other Articles.

Making money blogging can be very hard work. Trust me, I know! And getting website traffic to your blog can be daunting. That's why I would like to share a quick thought about something that I learned you should do when you link readers to other blogs or websites. This is cool, so read on.

When you are writing articles in your blogs and linking to other readers, don't run your readers away. Lots of times when a reader clicks on a link in your post, they are properly directed to whatever you have referenced. However, in order to get back to you, they would have to click the back arrow. They may not even remember that they were on your page to begin with as sometimes happens when they are distracted by the article you directed them to or maybe other things that grab their attention.

So what can you do about this? All you have to do is add a little html to your links and that will solve the problem.

For example, say you had a link back to this blog. Your would normally type something like this minus the extra spaces: Before the opening of the link, you would put the < , then a href="http://howtomakeinternetmoney.blogspot.com">How to Make Internet Money < / a >. This would send your readers to my blog and away from yours.

Now, if you add a space after the quotation mark at the end of the url, then the words target="new" and then, of course, close the link with > , then your readers would still be properly directed to the other link, but it would open in a new window or if they are using Mozilla, it may open in a new tab depending on their settings.

This is how it would look, again if you were directing others to my blog and, of course, without the extra spaces (I'll do this step by step with you):

1. Before the opening of the link, you would put < a href=" (no space between < and a);
2. Then the URL , http://howtomakeinternetmoney.blogspot.com;
3. End it with a quotation mark;
4. Then space;
5. Then target="new">How to Make Internet Money;
6. Then close it with < / a > (remember no spaces here).

For clarification, remember that after the .com" in the URL, there should be a space and then the command target="new".

Now in practice (click on the link and see what happens): Free Survey Lists & More. LOL - Remember to come back to this post. :-)

Did you see that? Cool huh!

This way, after they finish reading, before they close out or move on to something else, they will still have a window open with your blog showing. This can potentially jog their memory about how good your article was and, of course, the possibilities are endless. LOL!

Remember, your idea is to make money blogging, so don't run your readers away.

Happy blogging!

I'd love to hear from you. Comment Below or Email Me Using the Sidebar Link. Thank You. :-)

Generate Website Traffic and Make Money Online By.....

Joining a Blog Carnival!

For the last two weeks, I have been involved in hosting and getting others to participate in a blog carnival. It has been kinda like being on a roller coaster. I jumped in with my eyes closed and my hands raised up to the sky in a sense, because I really had no idea what being a part of a blog carnival entailed.

However, this experience has been very exciting and has opened up the opportunity for one of my blogs, (Free Survey Lists & More), to not only more traffic, but because of the traffic, more money! For that very reason, blog carnivals has become the next topic for today at How To Make Internet Money, also known as "Blogging, What's in it for Me?"

So, What is a blog carnival? The information I am about to give you came from a site, very appropriately called Blog Carnival, so sit back, relax, get your coffee/tea and get ready to be entertained, LOL! Well, get ready to be informed, at least.

Now, I introduce to you, directly from Blog Carnival, some answers from the FAQ section:
1. What is a Blog Carnival?

A Blog Carnival is a particular kind of blog community. There are many kinds of blogs, and they contain articles on many kinds of topics. Blog Carnivals typically collect together links pointing to blog articles on a particular topic. A Blog Carnival is like a magazine. It has a title, a topic, editors, contributors, and an audience. Editions of the carnival typically come out on a regular basis (e.g. every monday, or on the first of the month). Each edition is a special blog article that consists of links to all the contributions that have been submitted, often with the editors opinions or remarks.

There is so much stuff in the blog-o-sphere, just finding interesting stuff is hard. If there is a carnival for a topic you are interested in, following that carnival is a great way to learn what bloggers are saying about that topic. If you are blogging on that topic, the carnival is the place to share your work with like-minded bloggers.

Blog Carnival is the place to come to find carnivals you are interested in, to submit your blog articles to carnivals where they belong, and to organize and maintain carnivals.

2. Who creates a Blog Carnival?

It takes a village, you might say. Although it is possible for one person to do everything it takes to make a Blog Carnival, the work is usually divided up like this:

* The Organizer starts the carnival, decides what it will be about, what the submission criteria are, and how often it will appear. They also coordinate who will host each edition of the carnival. As time passes, they find new volunteers to host. Organizers use Blog Carnival to manage the schedule of who is hosting what and when, so they can present it to their audience in a single, well-known place.

* The Host volunteers to host a carnival edition on their blog. They work with the organizer to pick a date that suits them (popular carnivals schedule their hosts for months in advance). In the period leading up their scheduled date, they collect submissions from bloggers, and organize them into a single article chalk-full of links, often with their own comments. This article is published on the scheduled date, and everyone leaves comments on their blog telling them what a great job they did (well, usually, anyway).

* Bloggers who have written an article on the carnival's topic can submit the link for inclusion in the next edition of the carnival. Often, bloggers who contribute to carnivals are experts in their field (or at least, highly opinionated!). Blog Carnival has a carnival submission form for each carnival that bloggers can use to submit links to selected posts to a carnival host. All the blogger needs to know is the name of the carnival, and Blog Carnival takes care of getting it to the right person.

* The Audience consists of both bloggers and just-plain-interested readers. They come to Blog Carnival to find out if there is a carnival on a topic they are interested in, and to find out where the carnival editions have been, and where they're going to be in the future.

If you were like me, you would have to read that a few times before you really understood it, so I am going to attempt to make it even more simple. This will be my first time, but I will make a go at starting a "blog carnival" and all you have to do is decide which part you will be playing (i.e. host, blogger or audience).

Are you ready to join? If so, get ready, get set, "ALPHABET SOUP BLOG CARNIVAL," coming soon for your enjoyment, either as the host, the blogger, or the audience.

Entry is FREE!!! Hope to see you there!!!!

Oh, one more thing bears repeating. Remember, I chose this topic since being part of a blog carnival has certainly helped me not only generate more traffic to the site where I hosted the last Blog Carnival topic, but it has also helped me generate more affiliate income, so I see great potential in this for you if you participate in a venture like this.

More information coming soon.

UPDATE: Here is some information I posted on a forum I belong to regarding my take on the above information in more simple terms:

For example, if I'm the "organizer," I can arrange for, say, YOU, to host the next carnival, of course, at your option, and then you would be considered the "host."

After that, others who would like to participate would be considered the "bloggers" who make submissions at a clearly designated area (which, if I'm understanding correctly, would be at the host's blog...

Blog Carnival has a specific link that they use for these submissions to keep things more organized (which I think is nice). The host will put this link/button at the bottom of their blog entry that introduces the carnival topic (a little html) - I'll get into that later).

It seems a whole lot more complicated than it needs to be, but just like with everything, the more you do it, the easier it gets. I think it's worth it if we all eventually get more traffic to our sites.

Here is the quote from Blog Carnival again:
In the period leading up their scheduled date, the host collects submissions from bloggers, and organizes them into a single article chalk-full of links, often with their own comments. This article is published on the scheduled date, and everyone leaves comments on their blog telling them what a great job they did (well, usually, anyway).
My understanding too is that Blog Carnival will put our blog carnival link on their front page (when we have an ongoing topic) for advertising so that others not necessarily a part of this forum will also chime in, if they like.

You know what, I say this is worth a try. At least we can say we did it before and in doing that we will find out if it is something we really like, something that brings us positive returns or not. We'll never know if we don't try.

11 Quick Tips for Making Your Blog Work For You!

Optimizing and Monetizing Your Blog.

Here are some of the things I have done to optimize and monetize my weblogs (do not consider this blog for the purpose of this discussion since it was my first and therefore not very well planned out in the beginning) to prepare them as a basis for internet and affiliate marketing:

1. Make sure the title of your blog and the URL for your blog are the same or very similar. This blog was my first and did not follow this rule and therefore, the traffic, etc. to this site is not where I'd like it to be. However, if you look at my free survey lists blog at Free Survey Lists & More not only does the title have my keywords, but the URL as well, so you see what I mean. This site has brought me the most success.

2. Make sure the title and the URL both have the main keywords that you will be focussing on in your blog. For example, if you will be focussing on Vioxx lawsuits, then see if you can set up your blog to have this URL - http://vioxxlawsuits.BLOGDOMAIN.com.

3. Be sure to journal around the topic you have chosen to focus on. Do not jump willy nilly around topics. This will throw search engines off.

Stay Focussed by writing about topics that relate to the title and URL you have chosen, making sure your keywords are scattered evenly about in your blog entries. Do not forget to do this.

4. It is also a good idea to put your keywords in the title field for your blog entries and then place a period after the title. This will insure that search engines will immediately notice your keywords since they usually start spidering from the top left of the screen to bottom right. The better placed your keywords are, the better rank you will receive with the different search engines.

5. Make sure you sign up with Google Adsense or other contextual based PPC (Pay Per Click) programs and then place the code in your blog template.

6. Do not put your advertisements under the fold (meaning off the screen i.e. at the bottom of the post). If you do (i.e. for aesthetic reasons), make sure you also have ads/banners near the title of your blog entries. See how I did it in this entry.

These are the most effective placements I have experienced to date and considered by many Adsense gurus to be the hotspots for ad placement. If you go to the Google Adsense site, they will tell you the same thing.

7. Sign up for other affiliate programs such as, Amazon.com and Linkshare or even Clickbank. Once you have signed up, you will be able to place more than just Google ads on your page. Remember that multiple streams of income is the way to go.

8. Ping your blog at places like Ping-o-matic. The rule is to only do this once or twice a day and ONLY if you have made substantial changes to your blog for the day, such as adding another blog entry.

9. Format your blog entries into articles and then submit your articles to ezines (free or paying). You are sure to boost traffic to your website or blog this way. After being published, you can link others to your published articles. This will give you and your blog more weight. When you have more weight to your name, others will try to emulate what you have done to become as successful as you.

10. Post your blog on forums and network with other bloggers to get traffic to your site. The more people who click on your site, the more will stay, maybe like what you are saying and maybe buy what your are selling.

While you are doing this, you can also choose to leave appropriate comments (not spam) at your favorite blog sites. This will get your link onto another person's site tracked back to yours. The more links you have out there, the better search engine wise.

11. Educate yourself! There is so much free information on the Internet about the development of a website/blogsite to cater to search engines. There are loads of people who have mastered this art and give this information away for free, such as Brad Cullen in my last post. By the way, the offer still stands!

While these 11 tips are not the only things you can do to create a money making blog, they will definitely help, so here's to your future success.

In parting, I will leave you with a famous quote from Thomas Edison. He said, "Being busy does not always mean real work. The object of all work is production or accomplishment and to either of these ends there must be forethought, system, planning, intelligence, and honest purpose, as well as perspiration. Seeming to do is not doing."

See you next time!

Instant Profitz - Have you tried them?

I've Been Paid - Have you?

Apart from researching how to make this blog SEO sensitive, what RSS vs. Atom Feed is, how to market products and services via the internet, etcetera, etcetera, I have a little side project that I involve myself in. It's called Instant Profitz. Now, being that this blog is about how to make money using the Internet, I thought it would be appropriate to share my experiences with this company here. And what a great experience I have!

This lovely, sunny south Florida afternoon, as usual, I turned on my computer to check my e-mail and low and behold, I was paid nearly $200, all of my March earnings, directly to my Paypal account! Isn't that WONDERFUL! I can't say enough about Instant Profitz!!! You should really Join Today!

By the way, being paid via Paypal is the fastest way to get paid, although the requirement is that your account be verified which is very easy to do (leave a comment below if you need help with this). However, you can opt to get paid via a different method (i.e. check) and they have lowered their payout from $30 to $20, so now it's even easier to get paid with Instant Profitz!

Niche Marketing - Compete with the BIG Guns!

Niche Marketing - Compete with the Big Guns!

How do you compete with the big businesses already on the web, like Costco and Walmart and many others? I found a fairly dated article back from 1996 that you will love. It is absolutely not outdated, so don't worry that the information you are getting will not help you keep up with current "generate-traffic-to-your-website" trends.

The article is entitled, "Niche Marketing on the Web," and was written by Dr. Ralph F. Wilson. He says that the average traffic you should expect to be seeing when you are just starting out is somewhere between 200 to 1000 visitors a week. That's not too bad, right! It actually sounds doable, doesn't it?

As you know, I just started this blog in March and so before I read this article, I was thinking that by now, I should really be bringing in some heavy traffic, but alas, that has not been the case. I do have a steady stream of web traffic coming in, but nowhere near what I'd like to see. I'm sure you feel the same way.

So what do you do about this? Dr. Wilson suggests niche marketing as the key to competing with the big guns. WOW! Imagine that, your blog up against a company like Walmart!

Dr. Wilson explains how to Niche Market highlighting three crucial elements:
1. Create a profile of your potential customers.
2. Find out where they congregate on the Internet
3. Get your message out to them in a Net-acceptable manner.
Here is the article for your enjoyment and here's to your success!

Blog Burn Out - Remember Why You Are Doing This!

Internet Marketing Blog Series - Article VI.

It occured to me that many of you could be approaching this blog series already on the verge of blog burn out. It is so easy to remain focussed too long on a subject such as Internet marketing or struggling daily to make money on the Internet, feeling like the veritable hamster running on his wheel. That is why I would like to take this day's space to remind you why you are doing this and at the same time, share some of the information I received at the Internet Marketing workshop I attended last weekend.

If you recall, a few articles back in this series, it was mentioned that making a relatively good income by blogging for cash is definitely possible, but you have to be willing to put in the time. So why would you use blogging and Internet marketing online to get your products and services out to the world?

For one thing, there are over a billion people online at any given time. Also, you can work from home, so it is cost effective and can potentially give you the freedom you've been striving to achieve from the everyday 9-5. How about the fact that you can be your own boss.

And also, isn't it true that once you set up your online businesses, they can be open 24/7, because they are automated engines. Your computer can be off and your blogs or websites are still working for you. You could even be sleeping. It's a beautiful thing, right!

Then there is the fact that you could work from anywhere in the world since the Internet is worldwide. You can be riding in your car (hopefully as the passenger), you can be in a plane, on a boat, or in a bar (although you might not be wanting to work there), wherever Internet access is provided.

Finally, a very interesting idea that was mentioned at the Internet Marketing workshop I went to last weekend was that having an online business is the fastest growing industry ever. There are new people learning about the world wide web everyday and therefore that translates into more potential web traffic and eventually sales for all.

All of that being said, you've heard of the saying that "Timing is Everything" and now is really the time to get on the bus with marketing your products and services online! Action is the missing equation to that quote, because if you are at the right place at the right time and aren't doing anything about it, then you might as well be somewhere else.

Take action even if you don't know what's going to happen next. You may be pleasantly surprised. So hang in there if the going is rough or slow. Persistence is one of the keys to SUCCESS!

Come on back for some more ideas on Internet Marketing and more. I look forward to seeing you! By the way, I also look forward to your comments, so leave one. ;-)

Writing Articles for Traffic - Super Strategy for Internet Marketers!

Great Content = Great Ezine Articles = Great Internet Marketing Strategy!

Internet Marketing Blog Series - Article V

Instead of rewriting this, it's so well written that I thought you should read it the way I did. As you know I am taking a free e-course given by Priya Shah, a successful internet marketing expert.

In one of her tips, she shares how to get traffic to your site by editing your blog posts into articles that you can get published. This is what she says:
One of the best methods for promoting your website is to write articles and submit them to article directories.

The suggestion for extending this to edit your blog posts into articles and submit them to directories came from the coach at "Explode Blog Traffic" who also has other noteworthy suggestions at his blog here. How to Explode Blog Traffic

You'll find an extensive list of article directories here Submit Articles
Are all of your blog posts potential "ezine" articles? Maybe not, but Priya Shah had some further hints on what you can write about in another of her lessons. She writes:
The most unobtrusive way to sell is to write reviews about products and link to them, mention products in passing, write articles or tips and recommend products (yours or other people's) and services on your blog.
As you can see, not only is this good advice on what to write about, but also how to market your products.

Related to this, Jennifer Clason, another successful online entrepreneur, also had some excellent and practical strategies for getting your blog visitors to keep coming back for more. This is something you can definitely use since the only way to make money with the products you are selling and the affiliate programs you are with is to get people to find your products and/or services, then like them, then buy them! Her article is entitled, Is Your Website Sticky.

Spring Cleaning Your Blog

Internet Marketing Blog Series - Article IV

As you know, I've been sharing my thoughts and tips on Internet Marketing from a newbie's perspective. Well, this weekend, I had the wonderful experience of going to a free workshop that talked all about Internet Marketing for 90 whole minutes. It was like having an e-book come to life. I was exposed to lots of ways to "spring clean" my blog.

All of you know that spring cleaning takes lots of work and effort, especially if you are emotionally attached to things you should really let go of. Ask my friend Kira. She put to paper her thoughts on spring cleaning this year in her blog, What Really Is Happening To Me!

Spring cleaning in regards to Internet Marketing means acknowledging the importance of considering what is working for your blog and what is not. You shouldn't waste too much time marketing what is not working for you. I'm sure you've heard the saying, "Time is money." For example, let's say you have Google Adsense strategically placed where you think you will get the most clicks, but after days or weeks or even months of very few or even no clicks, you still haven't made any changes.

What are you going to do about that? Can you do anything? Of course you can! Try different size banners or skyscrapers. Try moving your Google ads around to other places like under your blog entry title or in the sidebar instead of in your header section. See if that works and if not, try try again!

You may also have other affiliate banners around, but aren't generating successful sales. Maybe you just need to try a new and fresh product. Keeping your blog fresh and attractive is key to generating a continuous flow of web traffic to your site.

Don't be afraid to try something new. If your affiliate programs are not working for you, then let them go and get new ones! If there is one way you can make money using the world wide web, it is through affiliate marketing. However, if you feel very good about your current project, but think you just need to give it more time, that's fine too. Just try to remember to keep giving your products and ideas a fresh, new twist. After all, it is spring time. Brighten things up a little bit, possibly even consider changing your blog template. You can do that without losing your blog entries quite easily. You'll be surprised at what a new look or new direction to your blog will do for you and your readers!

At the workshop, I was reminded of Albert Einstein's words. He said, "The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results."

So, I know we are all a little insane at times, but are you the definition of insanity? If so, a desire to change is not enough. One of the characteristics of success is to do something about it! No need to pop pills to cure this ill, just spring clean your blog!

I'd love to hear from you. Comment Below or Email Me Using the Sidebar Link. Thank You. :-)

I was reading my friend's blog, My Mother's Fault, about how she was looking for some new work and started to consider my own work at home situation. Talking About Making Money.....

This is a little off topic, but I really found it interesting and had to share.

In my friend, Kira's, HealthnWellness4u blog, she mentioned that a former Vioxx user was awarded $4.5 million! Now that is a Niche topic I could start a blog on - Vioxx Lawsuits or anything Vioxx for that matter.

Generating Website Traffic Naturally

How Do You Increase Your Website (Blog) Traffic?

Internet Marketing Blog Series - Article III

When I considered my Google Adsense experience fair warning that I would have to come up with other ways to generate less artificial web traffic to my blog, I thought, what a fabulous way to share with you what I plan to do Internet Marketing style.

After doing loads of research, I think it has been drilled into me that search engines love a content rich website. It seems that the more you write, the more search engines notice you. That is a very good thing when you are thinking about your site's page rank on Google or Yahoo or any number of search engines. It is also a good way to generate higher website traffic naturally. However, generating website traffic is not only about search engines. It is very much about people.

There are a few steps that you must take in order to build your blog traffic. I'll relate a few of those steps today and then a few more over the weekend, so here we go:

1. How does your content read? Is it something you would read yourself? Is it interesting to your focus group? Who are you selling to? Make sure that your content draws your readers in, not makes them run away. Make your entries interesting and lively, even entertaining (of course measured with balance). Why is this important? If your readers like what you have to say, they will come back for more.

2. If you are blogging to market to a certain group of people, be sure to stick to the point. If your blog is about toothpaste, then that's what your posts should be about. I don't mean only write about toothpaste this and toothpaste that, but you can write about Crest toothpaste vs. Colgate Toothpaste (specifics) and you can also add posts about teeth cleaning products and whiteners (related topics). Try not to jump around too much.

It wouldn't do to write about Australia or Koala bears or alligators on a blog about teeth even if you just went to the zoo that weekend. Why is this important? Two reasons - 1) Search Engine spiders will more easily understand the focus of your blog which is good for page ranking and therefore, when people search for your topic, they will be able to find you; and 2) Your readers will return more regularly knowing that you will have posted about something of specific interest to them.

3. On the heals of Suggestion Number 2, you don't just have to stick to one blog. You can have many blogs that talk about related topics and then link each one to the other. This is called "Niche Blogging." Again, this is a good way for search engines to find your blog which will lead readers right to your page.

On that note, I recently read a really super article about Niche Blogging that I'd like to direct you to: Is Your Niche Nichy Enough - A Tale of Two Adsense Blogs.

OK, so I've given you three tips, but there is ohhhh soooo much more!!! Make sure you check back here soon.

HTML Template Tags - HUH?

What Does It All Mean???

Are you a blogger who goes into your blog template and looks at it like it was something from outter space? You think to yourself, if I make any changes to my template, I'm just going to mess everything up and I won't know how to fix it, so I better just leave it the way it is even if I don't really like the way my blog looks.

Well, fear no more!!! If you are like me, you want to understand all of that HTML incomprehensible gibberish and Blogger makes it a little easier for us newbies. How?

Did you know that Blogger has a page that defines all of the Template Tags that you are looking at so that you can not only understand them better, but change them if you must?

Thinking about what I wrote yesterday, for example, the Meta Tags used in your template, where are they? Blogger explains this by saying, "<$BlogMetaData$> - inserts all blog metadata via one tag," and then it provides a sample output so you can see what this tag really represents (a breakdown of sorts).

Here's where to find more information on this:

Template Tags: Defined!

Even though HTML is like learning another language, you can start to understand it with this legend of sorts. I hope it helps you like it's helping me.

View Page Source - Where Do You Look?

Have You Ever Wondered How to View Your Page Source?

Last month when I was setting up my blog, I wanted to syndicate it using Feedburner's RSS Feed (Don't ask me why just yet as I'm still trying to understand all of this stuff - LOL!). After signing up, I am taken to a page where I am given a list of "Must Dos" in order to optimize the use of this product.

I was able to follow the given instructions completely until I read that I had to change my Atom+xml feed in my blog template to RSS feed. OK, I thought. I can do that. I just go to my template and find the line that addresses this and then change it. So I went to my template and from a newbie's point of view, there was NOTHING showing ANYTHING about Atom feed or anything like it.

Of course, I knew it must be there since the instructions clearly stated that this could be done, but all I saw in the header section of my template was this $BlogMetaTag$ thingy. The instructions explained very plainly that in order to find your Atom Feed, you have to go to your page source and look for a particular html line that covers this.

Wasn't I in my page source? I thought that the template showed the page source. Naturally, I was wrong! How did I know this? Well, I went to Feedburner's forum and it seemed that others found nothing at all difficult about viewing this "Page Source" and were even copy-pasting their html into their posts to ask if they made the correct changes.

My problem was that their html looked nothing like what I was seeing in my template. I mean, I was absolutely sure that I was in the right place when looking at my template, but then again, it didn't seem right.

OK, OK! I know I'm going on and on about this, so here's what you do to find your page source. Pull up your blog like you would any other URL and while viewing your your blog on screen (not in your Dashboard mode), just go to View in your menu bar all the way at the top where it has drop down menus for "File," "Edit," "VIEW"...There it is. Do you see it somewhere towards the bottom of the list? It says "PAGE SOURCE!!!" or if you are looking from a different browser, it could just be saying "SOURCE."

Anyway, so there it is. I hope I helped some of you since it took me a long time to figure that silly simple little problem out. I am certainly not one of my friend, Cindy's, gifted children whom she shares with all of us in her blog Life of a Gifted Boy.

I have more helpful information to share with you tomorrow as I continue my series on Internet Marketing, so I look forward to seeing you here at Blogging - What's in it for Me?

Newbies and Experts

"Which Came First - The Chicken or the Egg?"

Let me make a statement about my "Newbie Status." I was recently reminded in an ever so subtle way and perhaps even unintentionally that I am soooo not an expert when it comes to giving advice about Internet Marketing, but there are ways around not being an expert. Isn't it true that every expert was once a newbie!

How many of you have heard the question: "Which came first, the chicken or the egg?"

Writing about generating website traffic, What SEO and RSS Feed are, Internet Marketing and so forth, was something I would have never done a month or so ago? And therefore, I would never presume to be an expert on these topics. Nevertheless, I have been educating myself with e-courses, seminars, e-books, etc. all produced, written and supplied by "the experts" or those who have already succeeded in this industry in one way or another.

The purpose of this blog has always been about chronicling what I have learned, not like some puppet on a string or like a parrot, but through my real life experiences as they happen in the internet money making industry. Isn't that what "blogging" is about - branding, communicating and connecting with your readers? If I wanted to write about commercial folding tables or a snake in my boots, being an expert is unnecessary as long as the subject matter works for my blog. Frankly, all things being equal, anyone can become an expert, but success means more than that.

And so before any more time passes, I want to take this opportunity to thank those of you, newbies and experts alike, who through many words of encouragement and help have made chronicling those experiences worthwhile. You have made me feel like it has not been for nothing. My spirit, although downtrodden a few hours ago, has been revived and so I will continue my mission and my passion to share with you everything I learn about how to make money online. Always remember, don't forget where you came from!

I hope I can continue to help you and myself! Cheers! ;-)

Google Adsense Dilemma

Forewarned is Forearmed!

The experience I am about to relate just goes to show that I am still such a newbie at this whole making-money-on-the-internet gig, so I know you newbies out there will be at a better advantage than I was if I relate it to you. Without further fuss, here it goes.

I recently used an autosurf to advertise my blogs, both of which have adsense on them. I didn't know this, but it is an absolute NO-NO to do this as it is against Google's Terms and Conditions and Policies.

Needless to say, at the end of the day, I was given a very strong reprimand. After revealing my Google Warning experience at a few of the forums I belong to, many of the posters' comments enlightened me to the fact that I was indeed very fortunate since many in the same boat as I were simply booted out without any warning. I have been saying "WHEW! That was a close call!" ever since.

Two days ago, I took some time to really read through the Terms and Policies (which I should have done more thoroughly to begin with) and I came up with this:

I think the most important thing that I have learned here is that Google is working first and foremost with the advertiser in mind and therefore wants to provide the advertiser with an appropriate opportunity to have its ads seen in an attractive manner. If you, the publisher, are employing methods like autosurfs to generate website traffic, then it would seem that these advertisers' ads aren't going to get the best view for their buck. Here is some of the information I got off of Google's site:

Provide a good environment for advertisers.

Sites showing Google ads should not present a poor opportunity for advertisers. Sites that use tricks or deceptive practices in order to trigger inadvertent clicks on ads are prohibited.

And:

Site Content May Not Include (among other things):

Incentives (monetary or point-based) to users or third-party beneficiaries for online activity including, but not limited to, clicking on ads or links, performing searches, surfing websites, reading emails, or completing surveys
.

Also:

Prohibited Clicks and Impressions

Any method that artificially generates clicks or impressions is strictly prohibited. These prohibited methods include but are not limited to: repeated manual clicks or impressions, incentives to click or to generate impressions, using robots, automated click and impression generating tools, or other deceptive software. Please note that clicking on your own ads for any reason is prohibited, to avoid potential inflation of advertiser costs.

A fellow forum member, Patty Gale, who also has a wonderful site called http://www.CommuteInYourJammies.com, said this:

Advertisers bid on certain keywords / phrases in the Adwords program and the more competitve the market for that keyword, the higher the bidding will be. While nobody knows the exact formula (other than Google), the number of page impressions plays a factor in all of it.

While a few traffic exchanges (and I mean a few) can be a great way to get traffic, what they do is artificially inflate page impressions because the way people are finding your site is not through natural search.

So, putting your sites with Adsense on them inside of traffic exchanges artificially inflates the # of page impressions.

Much like putting a site with Adsense inside of Traffic Swarm is a big no-no, I would not recommend putting a blog with Adsense on it inside Blog Explosion.

So the bottom line is be forewarned! Google is very serious about protecting its advertisers. Making a pretty decent passive income on the internet using Google Adsense has so much potential if we just learn how to do it right, so let's not mess up newbies. Try to generate traffic to your weblog more naturally by ...........

I'll post more about this in the next Internet Marketing Series entry very soon.

"Brand, Communicate and Connect"

Internet Marketing Blog Series - Article II

Many of the big companies from Nike to Walmart and more are only recently recognizing the value of blogging to support their main businesses since this method of communicating to consumers is helping not just to rev up sales, but also helping to gain new customers and clients. This morning I was reading all about this in the latest e-course email sent to me by Priya Shah (one of my internet marketing gurus).

As bloggers this is important to you because it suggests that you are really on the right track to making money on the Internet. Priya says that blogging is not really about selling insomuch as it's about branding yourself, communicating with your readers and emotionally connecting to them. This is really how you build your deepest relationships in life, isn't it? So why not let that sort of connecting run into your online blogging business.

If there is anything you take away from this series about Internet marketing, I hope you take away the fact that becoming a successful Internet marketer requires a relative degree of relationship development with the people who you are marketing to. The reason for this is because once people know you and trust you (to some extent), they buy into what you are selling. Then they tell their friends about it and their friends buy your products and so forth and so on.

They will do this because they know you won't steer them wrong and although ultimately the decision to buy is their own, the fact that you supported the product/service made their decision to buy into it that much easier. They FEEL that you will not disappoint them even when there is no guarantee that the product will work for them the way it worked for you.

So how do you go about developing these types of relationships? Let your readers know who you are. Share your personal feelings on current events, why you think the way you think, what makes you tick. Help them grow to like you. That's what blogging is all about. It's an online journal, so use it not only as a means to get your products and affiliate links out there, but also to express yourself and if someone leaves a comment, don't forget to connect back to them with a response. Make your site more HUMAN. You'll be surprised at what this can do for your business!!!

I have so much more to say to you, so please come back for the next article in this Internet Marketing Blog Series.

On an off topic note, I really love this article and thought you might enjoy it too, so go on over and visit The Crazy Housewife.

See you soon!

I'd love to hear from you. Comment Below or Email Me Using the Sidebar Link. Thank You. :-)

Blog Etiquette and Other Internet Marketing Pointers

Internet Marketing Blog Series - Article I

I have spent the last week or so soaking up information on Internet Marketing (and boy is there a lot of it) from e-courses to e-books to plain old online research and I'd like to share some of the pointers that I have learned with you. I am going to try to focus on Internet Marketing from a bloggers perspective, although really anyone can use this information.

Today I will share two points with you and will add an article from a website and one from a blog that will give you more details.

Here is my first internet marketing pointer and the website article:

Whatever you are promoting, campaigning, advertising, etc., the most important word to talk about is YOU, not you. Whatever do you mean - you may be asking? Read One Powerful Word.

Now, a fellow blogger, Angela, recently put together a few pointers on WAHM Netiquette or "Work at Home Mom" Internet Etiquette that I thought was useful and she has encouraged anyone who has something to add to her list to please do so.

So, here is my second internet marketing pointer and what I would add to that blog article:

When you are receiving comments on your blog(s) that are not necessarily "nice" or "supportive" or may even be downright rude, don't respond in kind. The person's comment could be genuinely on the mark, but maybe they just didn't know how to word it diplomatically or didn't care to do so. How you respond will either win you a customer (regular visitor) or you will lose one. Using restraint is KEY to building customer respect!

If you have an internet etiquette rule in mind, please feel free to add to her list.

Additions to this Internet Marketing Blog Series coming soon to a blog near you.

I'd love to hear from you. Comment Below or Email Me Using the Sidebar Link. Thank You. :-)
