Shopping for Office Furniture

Do you ever notice yourself looking at office desks while shopping for office supplies? I just can't help myself. I was at one office supply store this past weekend and came across the cutest, space-use effective office desks. Mine is somewhat bulky since it's not really an office desk. I have what use to be part of an office desk, a hutch, sitting on top of a dinner table in a corner of my office. It works rather well, especially for storage, but it takes up so much space. If I had a choice and a little extra funds, I'd trade this stuff in for another desk that uses less space, but works just as effectively. I've seen a few, but I'm not ready to spend. Anyway, let's get back to work.

An Example of Specific Selling

I mentioned in my last blog that I read how an e-commerce website works better the more specific the products are in relation to each other. For example, you shouldn't try to sell toys and kitchen appliances on the same website unless the kitchen appliances are toys too.

Well, I was browsing the web and came across a website that makes this point very clearly. It's a website that focuses on a pulse oximeter. If you check out the site, it is all about one type of nebulizer. In determining what you are going to sell, it is important to keep in mind how your products relate to each other. Customers and search engines will appreciate it.

So What do You Sell?

So, what do you sell? Having an e-commerce business has opened my eyes to the fact that selling online can be done by just about anyone. I mean, if I can do it, so can you! My circumstances are that I have two babies. It's not easy working hard at building a website and sharing that time, especially in the beginning stages, with your children. I remember days when I got only a few hours of sleep at most. It was almost like when my babies were newborns. Yes, that's what I'd compare building a new website to, having a newborn.

Just deciding what to sell took time and energy and emotion. I remember my husband thinking about selling toilet paper holders when I was leaning towards kitchen utensils. Do you think that's too specific? I read that the more specific your website, the better the performance. I even saw a guy who sold a crotchless panty brand. His whole website was centered around that type of lingerie. Well, while I wouldn't know how to go about selling that, I think I've got selling toys down pat. So, back to the first question, what do you sell?

AntiVirus Software

Anyone who is anyone, and I know you are someone, has some kind of antivirus software, right? Well, which software do you use? Are you using a free antivirus software or one that you paid for? I've tried free and paid versions of different software like Norton and McAfee.

Which one would you recommend to your best friend? The bottom line is that everyone should have some type of protection for their system. If you don't, then what are you waiting for? You don't want to lose all of your hard work because of a virus, do you?

Owning a Vending Machine Business

You may have noticed that vending machines are just about everywhere these days, right? Have you ever thought of owning your own vending machine business? I know I have. I'm not sure how difficult one is to maintain, but people are always spending money on vending machine candy. It seems like the perfect business to get into. No need for customer support, just maintenance.

Well, I read about this company today called vendstar. This company was established almost 20 years ago and is said to be one of the "leading bulk candy vending machine manufacturers in the U.S." If you've thought about becoming an entrepreneur, but don't know what kind of business you'd like to start, why not take a look at Vendstar's product. It may be just what you were looking for.

Amazed and Contented - Making Money Online!

Did any of you e-commerce website owners notice sales on the downward trend this month, especially the first week of the month? I sure did. At first I thought it was just a fluke, since I had been making at least one to two sales a day for the past four months straight. Then it continued so that the first week of this month, I only made one or two sales for the entire week.

However, once the holiday was over and the partying was done, sales picked up again. I'm now content with my lot and no longer worried. I'll have to keep this in mind for next July 4th. This is really my first full year in business, so I'm noticing the trends and am amazed at how things tend to go up and down.

How are you doing this month? There are only six days left.

Talking About Student Loans

Talking about school loans and getting out of debt, sometimes taking out personal loans or secured loans is a necessary evil. However, you don't have to accept high interest rates. I have found that doing your homework can get you so much more than if you just jump right in without thought.

How many times have you read an advertisement for a credit card that promises 3.9% interest for a period of time or some other low interest rate? Probably at least once a week, right? Well don't fall into the credit trap or you will find yourself having to take out a loan to pay off your personal loans. However, if it does become necessary, always look for 0% credit cards. They are out there!

Student Loan Consolidation and Getting out of Debt

How does it feel to be debt free? I often wonder about this sometimes since everyday the availability of credit increases debt over and over again. I think I get credit card offers in the mail for at least two cards a day. Sometimes it's the same company with two different programs.

So how do you get out of debt? You can do so by budgeting. Look at your finances and your spending habits and see where you can cut down on your spending. I know this isn't rocket science, nor is it something new to hear, but one type of loan that people seem to ignore in terms of consolidating is student loans.

Student loan consolidation is one means of cutting your interest on loan payments. When Thinking about getting out of debt you must focus on where you can save and student loan consolidation is a means of saving. Even if you have private student loans, make sure you look into consolidating. You'll be surprised at the savings over time.

Vacationing and Still Making Money

As you may know, my family is visiting, thus the sporadic blogging. They have a timeshare and usually go to their vacation home Orlando. However, this time they decided to visit South Florida. I have lived here for much of my life and have never been to as many places as I have this week. I feel like a tourist. It has been quite educational and fun.

I live not too far from Miami, so we bought GoMiami Cards. I'd recommend them. In the meantime, guess what! I'm still making sales. I just come home in the evening and fill the orders. It's wonderful. I hope it's always like this.

Obtaining Leads to Make the Sale

Have you seen those signs on the side of the road that tell you that you can earn thousands of dollars a month as a mortgage broker? I haven't taken anyone up on that offer, but I wonder if it is true. I hear that the mortgage industry, as always, is booming, but is it beneficial to get into that competitive industry? Have you?

I hear that, as with any home business, you have to have leads. I found a site that has mortgage lists leads and other types of lead lists that you can have right at your fingertips when searching for persons interested in what you are selling. The company is called Martin Worldwide and they are known for their ground breaking mailing list database. The product is called ResponseComâ„¢.

If you are looking for a way to find leads, check out Martin Worldwide. For direct marketing products and services, please call (888)267-3545.

On Vacation and Lovin It!

I've been taking a few days off and although I find myself drawn back to the computer, I'm still enjoying my time off. I've still been able to make money while on vacation since my online store has stayed open. That's the beauty of having an e-commerce business. Even though you go away, you can still earn.

Last week I made a little cash taking part in a focus group about child life insurance, health insurance and other types of insurance for children. It was a 2 hour session and I earned $75. So I'm using that cash as vacation money.

I love working from home! So, I'm in South Florida now with my Connecticut family. Our plans are to go places that we haven't been to before or that the kids haven't been to before. It's Monday, so today will be our first full day of "running around."

Well, see you soon...

Merchant Accounts and Online Businesses

Do you use PayPal for your business transactions. This is a good option if you are just starting out, but I found that getting a merchant account where you are allowed to process credit card transactions through a company other than PayPal may be worth your time looking into.

Why do I say this? I am fond of PayPal, don't get me wrong, but they can be very expensive to your bottom line. Where you pay 2.9% plus .39 cents per transaction, if you are selling low cost items, it's like giving away your money. You can find more reasonable rates elsewhere. I know I did. I won't give you lots of suggestions on which payment processor to go with, but you can look into a company called advantageprocessors.com.

Don't worry if you don't think you won't qualify if you are just starting out. This company is said to be the "leading provider for low-cost online internet credit card processing merchant accounts for both Low Risk and High Risk merchants."

Many customers are not comfortable with PayPal and will just click off of your site for that reason alone. If you have a processor that accepts Visa, Mastercard, etc. right on your site, think of the possibilities.

Applying for Credit.

Applying for credit can be as easy as pie, but many times, not reading the fine print gets one into trouble. Why? Well, I'll give you an example. Once I wanted to transfer a credit card balance from a high interest rate credit card to a credit card that was offering 0% interest for a year. Sounded good, but I didn't read the fine print.

The credit card I was transferring the balance to was going to charge me 3% of my balance just to transfer the money. I didn't find out until I received the bill for the new credit card. I accepted my mistake and moved on, but I never made that mistake again.

Now, how can you get a hold of Credit Card Applications that you can review before committing? Have you ever heard of a credit card search engine? CreditCardSearchEngine.com recently issued a web release stating that their purpose is to allow "consumers, business and students alike to search, compare, and apply for all types of credit card offers, everything from low interest and reward card to cards for people with bad to average credit."

Don't sign on the dotted line until you know your options. Find the credit card that is best for you and your circumstances.

All Rained Out!

I had to take a break from the computer for about an hour today because there was a big electrical storm here in South Florida. What do you do when it starts to storm outside? Do you disconnect? I usually work on my laptop, so when it begins to rain, I find it very necessary to unplug everything and shut down.

I do not want to take the chance that my surge protector somehow does not do it's job. However, I do leave my desktop connected. I haven't had any bad experiences so far. For some reason, I am probably working on a mythical belief that laptops are more susceptible to surges. Are they?

What is HTML?

You are probably constantly hearing about Search Engine Optimization and RSS Feeds and all kinds of ways to make your website work for you. In fact, you probably already know what HTML means. However, some beginners do not know what HTML is and what it can do for them. I am learning day by day how to use it for my website.

A year ago, I didn't know how to make a table, or how to make a multi-colored table. I didn't know how to make a hyper link even or how to insert a picture into text. I've come a long way since then. So, what is HTML? It is Hyper-Text Mark-up Language. You need to know about HTML because search engines read HTML in order to determine your sites relevance, according to SiteProNews. In fact, they say "Search engines look exclusively at a web page's HTML code to determine its relevance."

HTML code is not difficult to learn. It's a language that you have to practice, but like me, you can have a lot of cheat sheets. Just Google HTML code and you will see a whole host of sites determined to help you learn the basics of HTML code. Don't be afraid to learn.

Considering a Career Change?

My husband was recently researching the ten top paying jobs on the market. One of the jobs he became interested in was becoming an actuary. Before he mentioned that title to me, I had never even heard of an actuary. He then proceeded to detail what he could do to become an actuary since he is considering a career change. I was not surprised to learn that you can actually earn a degree for this type of work online.

In fact, many of the top ten paying jobs have that option. You can involve yourself in an online mba program with little effort by simply researching your options. In fact Capella University is one such university which offers online degree programs. They are an accredited university and are fully online. Are you planning a career change and thinking of going back to school?

What Are Gateway Pages?

I always get great information from SiteProNews and today received 12 definitions for SEO beginners in an email newsletter. One definition that stood out to me was for "gateways pages." Do you know what gateway pages are? You might have a page or two like this on your website without even knowing it. Search engine optimization is one of the essential requirements for appealing to search engines and getting quality free traffic. Some people try to appeal to search engines using techniques that are not quite acceptable. They call these techniques, black hat or gray hat. You might say that gateway pages could fall under either of these categories.

Let me quote the definition for you according to the SiteProNews newsletter and you tell me what you think.
Gateway Pages. Also "doorway pages." Although there isn't a real consensus about what these pages are, their function is always cited as their definition. In other words, these pages are created to "rank well in search engines" by playing to the algorithms. Often viewed as "spammy," "gray hat" or even "black hat." However, any page written with search in mind, and geared towards search, can be construed to be a "gateway page." The difference between a page well-optimized for search and a "gateway page?" No clear lines there, but quality of content is probably the determining factor.
So, what do you think? Is this enough to drive you to drink or into drug rehab? There's always something to learn and there's entirely too much gray area to search engine optimization. :-)
